My Quarantine Story – Fix Your Perspective

Starting 23rd March, the government of Pakistan announced a nationwide lockdown as a preventive measure against spread of coronavirus. In my quarantine story I talk about how I have managed to cope so far and the thought process that helped me in doing so.

I read a beautiful post which stated that how we view this pandemic and operate while locked down depends on our perspective about it. Think of this, say 5 years from now when you look back at it, how do you want to view it?

Do you want to say things like I was terrified? The end of the world? I was locked down for days I didn’t leave my house? I mean all this is fine but what good would it bring?

Would you rather remember it as a time when you invested a lot in yourself? For instance I have gotten very consistent with my blog lately. What was I waiting for to realize this amazing skill that I have?

Come to think of it, it really is a privilege to
-work from home
-staying at home in a non-toxic environment
-do nothing yet survive
-be in a healthy mental state
-be in a healthy physical state
-be in a healthy spiritual state

There is an affirmation that I repeat everyday at least 5 times:
“Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better” 😊

Although at first it sounded very superficial but overtime I started observing a very positive effect in my life. So much so that I now get external validation to the fact that I am, in fact, getting better and better everyday.


No matter what perspective you choose, your quarantine story is yours to tell. And it will be different than my story or anyone else’s. The only request or advise is to make this story a positive one. One from which future generations can take a learning.

God forbid if something of the sort is to return in future, may your story help others to cope. To view lockdowns as a time much needed for self. Rather than viewing them as a halt to your progress.

If you are someone who wants to grow and progress in life, trust me no pandemic can ever stop you. Again, this is my personal story and I don’t want to impose it on someone else.

With all said and done I do realize that not everyone has the mental capacity to cope and spend all this time productively. So if you’re someone who simply survives this time and comes out sane, know that you have done enough and this is no little achievement in itself.

Healthy work from home 101

The topic in trend these days is the corona-virus outbreak and as a prevention measure you may have heard the term- Work from home

In absence of a vaccine, the best preventive measure suggested is social distancing which includes:

  1. Staying at home unless there is an absolute need to step out
  2. Shutting down offices and schools
  3. Closing restaurants and pubs
  4. Minimizing public transport and gatherings at public spaces
  5. Avoiding physical interaction as much as possible
  6. Work from home

The first day of work from home was pretty bad because my entire routine got messed up. I am the sort of person who performs best while following a certain routine. Research also suggests the same specially for people who struggle with mental health. A routine literally means sleeping, waking up, exercising, eating, reading, playing and working at the same time every single day. Regardless if its a weekday or a weekend, consistency is a must.

One thing I am specifically proud of us that I journal each and every day, first thing in the morning. Journaling is more like self therapy for me and its recommended to be done in pen and paper, if you want to have an idea how I go about it, please follow the link:

Given the situation, I decided to fix my routine starting today. To start with, I slept on time last night around 10:30 pm and woke up around 5:30 am in the morning. Had a quick breakfast and headed to my rooftop with a book: Short Cuts to Happiness: Life-Changing Lessons from My Barber. Its a good read; I walked for around 20 minutes as well. I just want to utilize my time in the best possible manner by doing productive things and not just wasting time playing games and watching movies.

I have always been interested in learning more and more about how google ads work so I enrolled myself in an online course on Search Engine Optimization on Udemy. By the way guys, this is such a great avenue for learning and that too for FREE! So regardless of whatever your interest, I would strongly recommend doing these online courses in your free time.

The early morning time is the only time in the entire day that is free from all distractions: no phone buzzing, no notifications on social media and no noise. It has been around 6 months now that I have tried waking up early on most, if not all days.

Next, I was just remembering the time when I used to post on my blog almost daily. I miss that time because writing about your thoughts makes you feel better. Although I do journal everyday but I miss the blogging community. Sharing my personal experiences with everyone and in-turn learning from theirs. So I have decided that this is something I want to get back at, although I might be doing it weekly to start with but I will make sure that my posts are well researched and they have some valuable learning for readers.

Another thing I was missing on while staying at home was listening to podcasts. While commute to work or gym, I would consider my car being a knowledge source as I would play podcasts of my interest. These included self help and development. Now that I am not travelling anymore, I dedicated some time for it in my day routine.

All this work pretty much takes up my morning. After which I have my lunch and then engage in some leisure activities that include play station games, netflix and movies. I don’t know when this situation will improve. I pray its sooner than later because there is only so much we can do while being with ourselves. Human beings have the innate quality of being social. we crave conversations and interactions, although some of us may deny it but that’s just how it is. I pray for all my readers, friends and family. May we all be safe and fight this together!

Strange Turn In Make Dream a Reality

Few months back I had a dream- This wasn’t one which occurred in between sleep but one which I planned while awake. At a time when I wasn’t really feeling like myself, I made a commitment that in 6 months I’ll be up in the air in a hot air balloon in Cappadocia. I wanted to make dream a reality but fate had different plans for me.

I remember writing about this in my very early days of blogging, you can check that post here. It was the very start of a long journey. I still look forward to it, I still believe I will make it a reality

I was so motivated that I started saving up half of my income thereon. When I had saved enough to make the dream a reality, I couldn’t do it as I had switched jobs and was then on probation. Completing my probation I thought there is nothing that could possibly come in between my dream. But it did, Coronavirus did come and interrupt my plan. This is not the first time that I had to postpone it due to unforeseen circumstances and honestly it is annoying but what can we do? How can I make dream a reality in such a time of uncertainty?

Life does not go as planned, apparently it’s not supposed to. I am left with zero motivation given the current situation. Travel was supposed to be an escape from routine, from monotony, from the everyday hustle bustle of life. On top of that we are all locked down in our homes now. The only thing keeping me sane at this point is time is my routine. You can read all about it here:

It is important to differentiate between controllable and uncontrollable events that take place in life. So whenever something bad happens, ask yourself can I control it? Is the answer is yes then go ahead and make a logical plan on how you intend on working on it. If the answer is no, then there is literally no point in fretting over it.

It has become really hard to get myself up everyday and keep going. Yet I do. And I see it as an accomplishment. I’ve had days in the past when I would just give up and stop doing anything altogether. But the past is in the past now.

I’m no longer that person, I refuse to be that person. Life does not happen to you, it happens for you. You choose how to react and you can take control of the situation, regardless of whatever it is. This time around I have chosen to react logically and rationally. It is difficult to not let your mind take over and go negative but you have to be in control no matter what.

So I’m going to fight.

Fight these feelings

Fight my bad moods

Fight the negativity

Make Dream a Reality

I will keep going and moving on. The only way ahead is the way forward. You have to be so persistent that even life bends down because you refused to. It isn’t easy, trust me it is not. But it is the right thing to and if I was to repeat this behavior over and over again, I would.

This is a tough time for all of us, we are all in this together. Maybe we will walk out of it as a different person. Someone who will put a lot of value on the little little things that did not matter before. This person will smile more, love harder and would not worry too much all the time.
